SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
At #KWRibfest we value our community. We know it might not be the reason you come, but giving back and being as socially responsible as we can is just the right thing to do.
We’ve implemented several programs over the history of the festival to support and give back to our community.
We collect for The Food Bank of Waterloo Region at the gate in lieu of admission. In 2022, $14,566.50 and 700 lbs of food was raised. (Total Meals = 44,000). Since 2008, we have raised $94,805 and 16,760 lbs of food. Way to go #KWAwesome! Pulling together to help our neighbours in Waterloo Region in a BIG way.
In 2016, #KWRibfest, implemented a Green Waste initiative to reduce our waste while increasing our waste diversion through recycling and composting. In 2017, we managed to divert over 50% of public waste from landfill and in 2021, 74% of public waste was diverted. Our goal is to divert 90% of all waste by 2025. Help us to continue to reduce waste and Go Green.
This FREE Bike Check area is operated by the City of Kitchener and allows you to leave your bike in a safe and secure area while you enjoy #KWRibfest. Bikecheck will be located across Jubilee Drive near the Boathouse.
Remember, it is illegal to drink and bike, so please bike responsibly.
#KWRibfest has been partnering with the UW Men's Rugby team since 2015 and in 2017 we welcomed the UW Women's Rugby team and in 2022 we welcomed the UW Swim Team. All three teams provide much needed event staff support, and in exchange, #KWRibfest provides a financial donation to support the teams travel budget. A win win.
Hydration Station. As part of #KWRibfest efforts to reduce waste, we are partnering with The Water Tap to provide safe, filtered drinking water at no charge to you. So, bring your reusable water bottle and fill it often to stay hydrated.
